Egypt Mill – Embankment Hotel
The scheme has achieved Planning Approval with Stroud District Council.
Set within a group of buildings beside the Nailsworth Stream, some of which are Listed and some of which Marshall and Kendon Architects have previously worked on, a new scheme is proposed for 17 room hotel annex with other ancillary functions and a landscaped car park. The Site is in the Industrial Heritage Conservation Area, and comprises most of the former Nailsworth station yard. A sensitive design proposal was required to respect the adjacent Listed Buildings and their context.
The proposal draws on the site’s Industrial layout following the ‘grain’ of the railway yard and using simple forms and robust materials and details to reflect the industrial surroundings. The long low building comprises a rubble masonry plinth blended into the railway embankment with a linear ‘pavilion’ in metal and glass above, set against a backdrop of mature trees
